Three Multi programs. One operation built around getting you to checkride.

Multi-Engine training at Take Flight runs as a focused, accelerated discipline. Most of our Multi students arrive with a clear goal — adding a rating, earning a Commercial Multi initial, or stepping up to MEI — and want it done efficiently. We’ve structured three distinct programs to match those three goals, each in the Diamond DA42 NG, each with a curriculum we authored ourselves, each backed by the same operational depth: three DA42 NGs in our fleet, partnerships with multiple multi-engine DPEs, and 8 to 12 checkrides each month.

When we built our Multi-Engine curriculum, we couldn’t find any commercially available training program that met our standards. So we wrote our own syllabus and study guide. That decision has shaped every part of how we run the program — including the fact that we don’t train Multi until you’ve got G1000 panel time, and we don’t schedule students until we’ve already booked their examiner.

Part 61 · Add-on rating

Multi-Engine Add-On

For licensed pilots adding multi-engine privileges to an existing single-engine certificate. Assumes G1000 panel proficiency.

Most pilots meet standards in 7–9 flight hours + 8 hours ground

Part 61 ceiling: Course-design max is 15 flight hours, sized for candidates needing additional G1000 acclimatization or remediation from inconsistent prior training.

For pilots earning their initial Commercial certificate in a multi-engine airplane.

Become a Certified Multi-Engine Instructor. Train to teach multi-engine students with scenario-based instruction in our DA42 NG.

Why we finish on time

Most schools train you, then hunt for an examiner. We do it the other way around.

We maintain partnerships with multiple multi-engine designated pilot examiners and conduct 8 to 12 checkrides each month. That means we build your training schedule in reverse from your checkride date — every flight, every lesson, every sim session is working toward a specific finish line. Your examiner is already booked when you sign up.

Combined with three DA42 NGs and our in-house factory-authorized maintenance team, scheduling delays and maintenance disruptions are extremely rare.

The DA42 NG. Modern. Predictable. Safe.

All multi-engine training at Take Flight is conducted exclusively in the Diamond DA42 NG — an all-composite twin with Garmin G1000 NXi glass cockpit and twin Austro AE300 jet-fuel diesel engines. The DA42 NG is, in our experience, the most capable light twin trainer on the market: docile asymmetric handling, FADEC engine management that simplifies cockpit workload, and meaningfully safer than the aging Senecas, Seminoles, and Apaches still used at most multi-engine schools.

Introduction to Multi-Engine Flight, ACS Maneuvers, Cockpit Flows AATD

Performed in our FAA-approved Redbird FMX. Introduces multi-engine systems, operations, and basic proficiency before moving to the airplane.

Introduction to Multi-Engine Airplane Flight Aircraft

Twin systems, preflight inspection, engine start, basic taxi/takeoff/landing, and emergency procedures in the airplane.

Performance Maneuvers & Emergency Ops Aircraft

Steep turns, stalls, Vmc demonstrations, engine failures across flight phases, asymmetric procedures, and the situational awareness that makes a Multi pilot.

Instrument Approaches & Emergency Ops Practice Aircraft

IFR approaches in the twin, planning, navigation, and instrument procedures. Recognizing and responding to emergencies during IFR operations.

Practice of Course Material Aircraft

Bridges theory and practical application. Any deficiencies are surfaced and corrected before the stage check.

Final Prep for Stage Check Aircraft

Final readiness work — calibrated by your instructor based on observed performance through Lessons 1–6.

End of Course Stage Check & Practical Exam DPE

Demonstrate knowledge by answering all examiner oral questions. Perform all maneuvers, landings, IR approaches, and emergency items to ACS standards.
